The Kurt Wallander novels, written by Henning Mankell, were adapted into films for Swedish television between 1994 and 2006. From 2005 to 2006, 13 additional films were produced, with new storylines, only one directly from a novel. The first film, based on Before the Frost was released in cinemas. This was the only film based directly on a novel – the rest are original stories based on plots written by Mankell, with scriptwriting completed by others. Two more were theatrical releases and the rest were released on DVD and shown on TV
